CET Neva tours . mountaineering, climbing, trekking, ski tours, kayaking, raftingMuztagh-Ata (7546 m) and Kongur (7719 m) - Expeditions into Chinese Pamir. World"s highest ski-tour on "seven-thousanders" peakCET "Neva" agency organizes expeditions to peaks of Chinese Pamir. In more restricted geographic meaning, this region is North-West termination of the giant mountain system - Kung Lun which stretches for 3000 km, from sources of Huang He river in the Central China to eastern boundaries of Tadjikistan Pamirs.
The ridges here are directed rather meridionally contrary to the Tadjik Pamir with its latitudunal mountain chains. Among them, short but majestic Kashgar Range with the highest point Kongur (7719m) is the most impressive. Massif Muztagh towers at the South-West end of the range. Its main summit, Muztagh-Ata, reaches 7546 m. These two mountains are the tallest peaks of whole the Kung Lun system.
CET Neva has experience of successful ascents of Muztagh-Ata by classic way from the West since 2001 year, so we offer this route to our possible clients. The way on gentle snow slope will certainly enjoy lovers of ski ascents. It is very easy technically, therefore good weather conditions and adequate physical form of the climber himself are the only what is needed for the success.
However if a challenge of much more serious ascent of Kongur (7719 m) excites a group of more experienced climbers it will be our pleasure to organize an expedition for that ascent as well.
In local languages (the Kazakh and the Uigur, both are Turkish dialects) "Muz-Tagh-Ata" means literally "Ice Mountain"s Father". First tries to climb up Muztagh-Ata were made in 1894 by Swedish geographist Sven Hedin from the West. In two of four his attempts he reached altitude of 6300 m. In 1947 famous British climbers E. Shipton and H. Tilman along with sirdar Gyalzen Sherpa could arrive to the summit dome at some 7000 m. The first historic ascent of the Muztagh-Ata summit had been realized in 1956 by Soviet-China expedition led by Eugene Beletsky following the route outlined by Hedin. The way is not difficult technically and good for not very competent mountaineers. But because of high altitudes above the sea all along the route, participants should be well prepared physically.
